Sustainability

A conscious choice

A conscious choice

Because we care

Invest in timeless garments

Investing in quality and durability is a step towards more conscious consumption and less impact on the environment. Buying less but better means reducing waste and giving the right value to the product. This is why our aim has always been to create quality products that last over time, thanks to the first-rate materials and craftsmanship we put into the development and production of our garments.

Materials

80 % of our garments are made of BTX Polypropyl, a fibre perfect for sports, thanks to its characteristics of high breathability and thermoregulating capacity, much greater than classic fibres such as Nylon and Polyester. Despite being a synthetic fibre, it is less energy-intensive in the production phase than traditional fibres, and can only be dyed in grains, saving water and energy in the process. Furthermore, like almost all synthetic fibres, it is 100% recyclable, and infinitely recyclable, without losing its properties, unlike natural fibres, which lose their properties after a few recycling cycles.

NOT ONLY POLYPROPYLENE; to offer you different garments suitable for various uses, we are always looking for new materials, of high quality and, when possible, from recycled sources.

Production

Biotex production, which branches out 80% in certified and controlled Italian companies, specialises in seamless: seamless garments from circular knitting machines. This technique makes it possible to create stretchy, comfortable, quality garments while minimising fabric waste, which is drastically reduced compared to the classic 'cut and sew'.

But the machine cannot do everything, we strongly believe in the value added by the know-how of our collaborators, technicians, tailors and craftsmen, who put their experience into the production of our garments, from design to final folding: all our items are folded, bagged or boxed by hand with care, to ensure further control over each product.

Design

In-house design gives us the advantage of having a complete view on the life of the garment, from design, through mass production, to use and end of life. In this way we can act on the most impactful aspects, such as the choice of materials, the origin of waste and the durability of the garment. What we try to do is to make continuous improvements in this regard on the products already in our catalogue, while as far as the development of new products is concerned, we aim to study and find new ways to create durable, functional, quality garments with less impact.

In order to do this, it is also essential to have continuous discussions with our technicians and artisans, experts in knitwear and tailoring, who can give us new ideas and solutions.

We have only one planet, our home

A BIOTEX COAT WILL NOT LEAVE YOU! .

Buy less but better, and use what we have as long as possible is the only guaranteed way to reduce our ecological footprint. We feel responsible for the lifecycle of our garments, our commitment is not only to create clothes that will stand the test of time, but also to ensure that every garment we create is used to the fullest. That's why we are keen, in a way, to 'pass the buck'. because if once you have bought the garment you treat it in the right way, you can extend its life, and do so in a more sustainable way.

Here are some practical tips for caring for your Biotex garments:

  • wash when needed, at low temperature (30°) and low spin: as they are very breathable, the garment doesn't necessarily have to go in the washing machine after every use, especially if you haven't sweated a lot. Washing at low temperature remains gentle on the garment, without ruining the yarn, and saves you water and energy.
  • Use NATURAL DETERGENTS specifically for sportswear, and do not use fabric softener, so as well as preserving the garment's perspiration characteristic, you will avoid the release of chemicals when draining the water.
  • You could use a special filter or filtration system to collect MICROPLASTICS.
  • If the garment breaks or gets damaged, it does not mean that its life is over. Contact a tailor near you to find out how to REPAIR it. A small adjustment for a few euros can allow you to wear your garment for many more years. If you need advice you can contact us, and our tailors will be able to direct you to the best intervention.
  • If you are no longer using the garment, even if it is in good condition, you can try GIVING IT BACK to a sporty friend, or SELLING IT BACK at a Second Hand channel. Throwing it away should be the last option, and remember, not in the general waste bin, but in the bins provided.

By following these few rules, the life of your garment will be greatly extended and the maths is simple: if you wear your clothes twice as long, you will need half as many garments!

NOT DISCARDS, BUT
RESOURCES

The textile sector is one of the most polluting sectors of the world economy, in terms of resource use, carbon footprint and waste generation. In Europe alone, some 12.6 million tonnes of textile waste are produced in one year. In the face of this, we at Biotex strive to increase the durability of our garments, and try to reduce material waste as much as possible. Although we are not a Zero Waste company, the 'throw nothing away' rule quietly applies among us. Perhaps you don't know that some of our products come from the leftover fabric of others, these are items 2030, 2031 (shoulder waste of 113- 114) and 2020, (sleeve waste of 116.), with more on the way! Furthermore, when there are faulty garments, or entire productions, we look for a way to repair the damage, and still be able to sell the product, usually at a discount in our Faenza Outlet. Here you will also find UPCYCLED garments made from discarded or faulty semi-finished products that we collect and catalogue in our warehouse, until we give them new life.

PACKAGING,
NOT ONLY FSC PAPERS

Each of our paper packages bears the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) logo, which certifies the correct use of raw materials from forests that have been traced and controlled by bodies that are responsible for ensuring a fair and environmentally friendly supply. The aim of this body is to guarantee that the raw materials used for packaging are of protected origin and have not hindered the natural reproduction of any forest species. Our durable, zippered plastic bags, on the other hand, are characterised by being reusable and not disposable as cost-efficient would suggest. Internally we reuse packaging materials for shipments and internal movements, and from 2024 we are replacing intermediate transport envelopes from traditional plastic to recycled plastic.

PEOPLE AND WELL-BEING

Sustainability does not only mean caring for the environment, but also for people and their well-being. We work to promote an active, healthy lifestyle in contact with nature, but we do not want to do this at anyone's expense. 80% of our production takes place in Italian companies, where the law protects the rights and conditions of the worker. As for the remaining production we do abroad, we make sure that the companies we turn to follow a policy of respect for workers' rights, and guarantee security and economic stability for their employees.
